James Wendell Dixon

d. July 21, 2017

James Wendell Dixon, 80, passed away July 21, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wendell is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, June Dixon; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Jennifer, Keith and Pam, and Kent and Tiffany Dixon; grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, Davis, Kate, Erica Dixon, and Nate and Laney Graham; niece, Darla Dixon; and nephews, Mike, Jay and Hank Dixon. He was a loving and proud husband, father, and grandfather.

He derived great strength from his faith, and his faithful walk with God. He was a long-standing and devoted member to his church, Sugar Land First United Methodist. He enjoyed fellowship with the Tuesday morning volunteers, as well as the Thursday morning Men's Bible Study group. He served the church in many capacities throughout the years. His kindness and warm sense of humor touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Wendell was a 1960 graduate of Texas Tech University, and a proud Red Raider alumnus. His 3 sons and a grandson followed in his footsteps, all graduating from his alma mater. After graduating from Tech Wendell began his career with Texaco in Snyder, TX. He then moved on to week for Drilco/Smith International, Inc., three times in Midland, TX, Laurel, MS, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and ultimately in Houston, TX where he eventually retired. While in Midland he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #623. Wendell was also a member of the Academy of Petroleum Engineers at Texas Tech University, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and NOMADS.

Wendell was an avid golfer, and enjoyed many of his friendships from Sugar Creek Country Club. One of his most treasured pastimes was the annual Labor Day dove hunt he enjoyed with his sons, grandsons, and nephews in Haskell, TX. Whether the hunting was productive or not the company was good, and the fun and laughter always abundant.
