James Duke

James Duke , 84, a longtime resident of Throckmorton, Texas passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, May 10, 2021, at Throckmorton Cemetery with Mr. Dennis Duke officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton.

James was born May 13, 1936 in Brownfield, Texas to Elnora Clara (Hertel) and Harvey Moody Duke. He married Carol Headrick on October 7, 1958 in Weinert, TX and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. He worked in electronics at WTU Management for 21 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Throckmorton where he also served as deacon. James was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club, Volunteer Fire Department, and Throckmorton Memorial Hospital Board. He was everything.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Duke of Throckmorton; son, Randy Duke and wife Eva of Throckmorton; daughter, Sherri Morrison and husband Tom of Wichita Falls; brother, Dennis Duke and wife Pam of Benjamin; 4 grandchildren, Marilyn, Britt, Elizabeth and husband Mike, Andrew and wife Michelle; 6 great grandchildren, Mikaylynn and husband Tyler, Adeline, Julianna, Alisha, Aubrey Rose, Melody; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Elnora and Harvey Duke.
