Born in Sweetwater on March 26, 1926, Jane was the oldest of three children of Beulah Mae and Albert Eidson. She graduated from Rotan High School and attended Tarleton State University. Jane received her Registered Nursing degree from Mary Meek School of Nursing at Hendricks Hospital in Abilene. She worked as a registered nurse at Haskell Memorial Hospital.
On October 19, 1947Jane married the love of her life Jack V. McAdoo, in Abilene. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2007. They were married for 60 years.
She began her nursing career at Haskell Memorial Hospital. Later she joined her husband in the family business, McAdoo Variety, in Rule, TX. They owned the business until 1963 when they opened the Ben Franklin store on the square in Haskell. Jane's creativity, craftiness, and artistic abilities added her personal character to the store. The McAdoo family had been in business in Haskell County for over 50 years. Throughout the years, Jane never lost her passion for nursing and filled in at Haskell Memorial when needed. After retirement from the Ben Franklin business, she was the Charge Nurse for the Hospital's Home Health Care Department and later the Charge Nurse for the Quality Assurance Department at Haskell Memorial.
Jane's nurturing spirit was expressed beyond her career as a nurse. She conveyed the same compassion with her family, friends, and community. Her family and friends will remember her as being the constant care-giver who never complained and served proudly. Jane was very involved in the lives of her children and grand-children and considered them her pride and joy. When able, she was present at all school functions and extracurricular activities.
The city of Haskell will remember her as a leader who served as the Chairman of the Haskell County Bi-Centennial Committee. As Chairman, the committee was responsible for coordinating the yearlong activities promoting the bi-centennial celebration throughout the entire county. One of the top achievements of the committee was restoring and relocating the LaBriere House, the first house built in Haskell, to the city park. For her accomplishments, Jane was named Haskell Citizen of the Year. Her signature gift of compassion, shown through her love for her family, special care for former patients, and markers in the community will never be forgotten.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack V. McAdoo and brother, Dr.Lewis Eidson.
She is survived by: her two daughters, Marijane Cunningham and husband, Larry of Haskell, and Susanne Roy and husband, Ken, of Carrollton; her son, Jack V. McAdoo, Jr. and wife, Natasha of Houston; five grandchildren, Kelli Kay Cunningham of Fort Worth, Craig Cunningham of Dallas, Jack Carter McAdoo, Bella Grace McAdoo, and Jax V.
