Janie G. Rodriquez

July 2, 1950 — February 13, 2024

It is with indescribable grief that we mourn the loss of our beloved Janie, who was a light in the lives of those who knew her. She left us on February 13th, 2024 at the age of 73, leaving behind a host of broken hearts. Janie was a lifelong resident of Haskell, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at the St. George Catholic Church, Haskell with Father Albert J. Devanesan officiating. Burial will follow services at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. A visitation is planned from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February15, 2024, and Rosary to follow from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. both at St. George Catholic Church, Haskell.

Janie was born on July 2, 1950 and raised in Haskell, Texas, where she acquired her love for encouraging and nurturing all. She was a dedicated wife to her husband Joe Rodriquez, and they spent over 39 years together before his passing. When it came to her family and friends, Janie was a fierce defender and an unwavering source of love, guidance, and comfort.

She was a devoted mother, proud grandmother and cherished her role as a sister and as an aunt, always making time for the little ones and making them feel special.  She was a true friend, always there to lend an ear or a hug when anyone needed it.

Janie was well known by the community as the elementary school kitchen manager for over 30 years.  She loved and touched the lives of her coworkers, the educators and especially every child that came through her kitchen line.

A fervent believer, Janie was an active member of St. George Catholic Church and served in various capacities. Her faith inspired her to be kind, considerate, and empathetic to everyone she encountered. She also enjoyed playing Canasta with her friends, who were her extended family.

Janie was also a lover of felines, welcoming seven cats into her home at different times, and spoiling them with love and attention.  She also enjoyed immersing herself in the world of western shows and brought her family together watching western movies and shows.

Janie was the embodiment of love and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of numerous people. We mourn her passing but are grateful for the joy and inspiration she brought us.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Rodriquez, her mother and father, Jose and Otilia Gonzales, her sister, Isabel Alvarado and numerous extended family members.

She is survived by her four children, Deborah Gonzales and husband Robert Gonzales, Patrick Rodriquez and wife Amy Rodriquez, Michael Rodriquez, and Greg Rodriquez and fiancé Courtney Rohde.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Robert Gonzales III, Vanessa Hight, Cecelia Gonzales, Trebor Gonzales, Diego DeHoyos, Marissa Lara, Anna Lopez, Jordan Rodriquez, and Jayden Rodriquez and 16 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by 6 sisters, 5 brothers and numerous number of brother and sister in-laws.  Lastly, she is survived by 93 nieces and nephews with many more great nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace, our dearest mother.  You will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
