Janie Cobos Lopez Vasquez, 70, of Stamford, Texas passed away at her home in Stamford early Friday morning, February 14, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church with Fr. George Roney officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Haskell. A rosary is planned for Sunday evening at the church from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Janie Cobos was born August 24, 1943 in Rosebud, Texas to Mary (Aguirre) and Thomas Cobos. She married Andrew Flores Lopez on April 25, 1963 in Haskell. Mr. Lopez has preceded her in death. Janie enjoyed helping others in need and working. She loved to sing and was in the church choir for many years. Janie married Jesse Vasquez in 2000. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church.
In addition to her 1st husband Andy, Janie is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Thomas Cobos.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Vasquez of Stamford; 2 sons, Benny Lopez and wife Yolanda and Marty Martinez and wife Lorie all of Haskell; her daughter, Julie Alvarez and husband Alberto of Haskell; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Cobos of Wichita Falls, Texas; and 2 sisters, Sally Hernandez of Thornton, Colorado and Mary Aguirre of Ohio.
Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Vasquez are Joshua Lopez, Benny Lopez, Jr., Thomas Lopez, A.J. Alvarez, Alex Alvarez, and Isaiah Alverez.
