Janis Lankford, 82, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Knox City. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Knox City Cemetery, with Reverend Andy Needham officiating. A visitation is planned from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2016, at the funeral home, 210 Avenue A, Knox City, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Janis was born October 2, 1934 in Knox City, to Mollie L. (Bearden) and Roy B. Carver. She graduated from Rochester High School. Janis married Charles Lankford on October 22, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Rochester. She was a member of Eastern Star and served several years on the Board of Helen Farabee Centers. She enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, playing Bridge and spending time with her grandchildren.
Janis is survived by her husband, Charles Lankford; her two daughters, Mandy Lankford of Canyon, and Lydia Peaks of Corpus Christi; her grandson, Brian Tankersley and wife Heather of Canyon; her granddaughter, Brook Tankersley of Knox City; three great-granddaughters, Paitlyn Tankersley of Canyon, Carver Tankersley of Knox City, and Kaeli Tankersley of Knox City; two great-grandsons, Jaxon Tankersley of Canyon, and Kaleb Whittle of Floydada; Payton Tankersley and wife Kristie of Knox City; and her two sisters, Jo Nell Cornett of Knox City, and Pat Hansen of The Colony.
Janis is preceded in death by her parents, Mollie and Roy Carver; her granddaughter, Chrystal Robison; and her sister, Flora Roberts.
