Janoma (Williams) Stephens

Janoma Williams Stephens, 89, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014, at First Baptist Church in O'Brien with Rev. Paul Chambers officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, June 15, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Knox City located at 210 Avenue A.

Janoma was born January 27, 1925, in Haskell County to Ann E. (Correll) and George F. Williams. She married Elmo Stephens, Sr., in Lubbock on September 21, 1946. She was a lifelong member of the O'brien First Baptist Church and attended the Ladies Sunday School class. She was a homemaker and also a member Eastern Star, Knox City Study Club, Southwestern Cattle-Women's Association, and Texas Federated Women's Club.

In addition to her husband Elmo Stephens, Sr., she is preceded in death by her son Elmo (Butch) Stephens, Jr.; granddaughter, Suzanne Stephens; brother, Clyde Williams; and step-daughter, Bobbie Marshall.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her grandson, John Scott Stephens and wife Dani of Lubbock; granddaughter, Stefani Stephens Araujo and husband Dr. Adriano Araujo of Sao Paulo, Brazil; daughter-in-law, Sue Stephens of Lubbock; step-granddaughter, Melody Campbell of Hale Center; and 4 great-grandchildren, Brex Lyle Stephens, John Quade Stephens, Gianna Suzanne Stephens Araujo, and Benjamin Stephens Araujo.

If desired, memorials can be given in Janoma Stephens name to: Butch and Suzanne Stephens Scholarship Fund at Citizens National Bank in Knox City.
