Wanda Jean Barnard, 88, and lifelong resident of O'Brien, Texas, passed away Friday morning, December 7, 2012 at Knox County Hospital in Knox County. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at O'Brien Baptist Church in O'Brien. Interment will immediately follow at O'Brien Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Wanda Jean Sellers was born on November 4, 1924 in Dunn, Texas to Walter "Doc" James and Leta Laurice (Quiett) Sellers. She graduated from O'Brien High School and on February 1, 1947 married Claudale A. Barnard in Rule, Texas. First and foremost, Jean was a wife and mother, but during the war she worked for General Dynamatics in Arlington, Texas and was proudly "Rosie the Riveter" as she worked on the B-24 Liberator. Jean was a life long member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary; VFW Women's Auxiliary; and the Women's Auxiliary of the Disabled Veterans of America. She was a member of the O'Brien First Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Claudale A. Barnard; infant son, Tommy Clark Barnard; her parents, Walter and Leta Sellers; and siblings, Virginia (Jennie) Smith and Mack Sellers.
Jean is survived by her 2 daughters, Claudia Bryant and husband Eddie of Weinert, Texas, Diane Roberts and husband Donnie of O'Brien, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Hicks and husband Keith of Hawley, Texas, Jonathan Bryant and wife Lindsay of Lubbock, Texas, Trish Johnson and husband Tim of Mineral Wells, Texas, Angela Patterson and husband Casey of Ft. Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren, Cecylee and Hadlee Hicks, Hayden and Raygan Bryant, and Tyler and Tayleigh Johnson.
Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Barnard are Eddie Bryant, Don Roberts, Jonathan Bryant, Keith Hicks, Tim Johnson, and Casey Patterson.
