Jeannette (Merriman) Scott

Jeannette Merriman Scott
April 24, 1942 – November 15, 2017

Jeannette was the daughter of the late Jane and Walter Merriman of Throckmorton, Texas. She attended Throckmorton Schools, graduating in 1960 as Valedictorian. Her favorite school activity was as the Drum Major of the Throckmorton High School Greyhound Band. Jeannette graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Early Childhood Development, was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and a charter member of the Texas Exes alumni association.

Jeannette married Ed Scott and they moved to Cleburne, Texas in 1966. There she was an active member of First United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees, singing in the Chancel Choir and teaching Sunday school.  She served the Cleburne community in King's Daughters, as well as in the Heritage Assembly, including a year as President.

Jeannette worked at Cleburne Travel as a bookkeeper and then for the State of Texas as a fraud investigation supervisor. She retired In 2002 and moved to McKinney, Texas to be near her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She enjoyed attending their school and music events as well as traveling with them. Jeannette greatly enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader.

Survived by daughters Liesl Keeter and husband, George; Amy Fortenberry and husband, Warren; grandchildren, Emma Fortenberry and Hanna and Scott Keeter; brother Michael Merriman and wife Cherrie; former husband, Ed Scott and wife, Ann.

Visitation will be held November 19, 2017 from 5:00-6:00 pm at Smith Family Funeral Home, 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton, Texas 76483. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, November 20, 2017 at the Throckmorton Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at First United Methodist Church, 220 N. Reynolds Avenue, Throckmorton at 11:00 a.m.
