Jessie J Silba, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas passed away Saturday evening, August 2, 2014 at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at St. George Catholic Church in Haskell with Father George Roney and Father Angelo Consemino officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Rosary is planned for Tuesday evening, August 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at St. George Catholic Church.
Jessie was born July 11, 1934, in Lagarto, Texas to Rosa (Martinez) and Timoteo Silba. A 1954 graduate of Rochester High School, Jessie married Frances (Macias) on March 17, 1987, in Rule, Texas. Jessie attended Hardin Simmons Univesity in Abilene, Texas. He loved to play baseball as a young man and continued the love of the sport through his son and later the Texas Rangers.
He was a devoted member of the St. George Catholic Church in Haskell, Texas. Jessie was a farmer with Custom Harvesting and for the past 13 years he managed the Power Plus Car Wash in Haskell, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Timoteo and Rosa Silba.
Jessie is survived by his wife of 27 years, Frances Silba of Haskell; his son, Jeffry Silba and wife Casey of Killeen, Texas; daughters, Michelle Ortiz and husband Joe of Phoenix, Arizona and Kay Day and husband Sam of Rowden, Texas; sisters, Eloisa Soto, Tina Johnson, Alex Garcia and husband Philip all of Haskell, Texas, Carolyn Abila of Abilene, Texas, and Rosa Rangel and husband Frank of Romeoville, Illinois; brothers, Tony Silva and wife Annie of Cushing, Oklahoma, and Ed Silva and wife Jan of Ashville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jacob and Shelby Ortiz of Phoenix, Arizona and Bella Joan Page of Killeen, Texas; special friend Javier Camacho who was like a son, and numerous nieces and nephews.
