James E. "Jim" McCurley, 70, of Haskell went to meet his Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Hendrick Hospice Care, Abilene. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Haskell, 11:00a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2018. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. Interment will follow at 3:00p.m at Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the funeral home, 304 N. 2nd St., Haskell, TX.
Jim served in ministry over 50 years and had surrendered his life at age 16. He was mentored by Brother Warren Dawson in White Hall, Illinois, where he was born on June 17, 1947 to James E. Sr., and Vesta Arnold McCurley. After high school he went on to Southwest Baptist College, Boliver, Illinois.
When serving as a summer missionary he met and married Carol Ann Gillem. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theology, Ft. Worth where he earned a Masters Degree. He and his wife had two sons, Craig and Matthew. Carol passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 1998.
On August 19, 2000 he married Martha Sue Clayton in Knox City.
He pastored Baptist Churches in Bellvue, Ft. Stockton, Childress, Potosi, Haskell, and Rochester.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue of the home in Haskell; two sons, Craig and Shari McCurley of Universal City, TX, and Matthew and Miranda McCurley of Canadian, TX; one sister, Pauline Gose of California; eight grandchildren,
With his second marriage came another family, son, Cyle and Denise Clayton; daughter, Christi and Mark Snodgrass; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Carol Ann.
