Jimmie L. Bowen, 90, of Haskell, TX passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., December 17, 2016, at the Church of Christ, Haskell with Mr. Philip Sims officiating. Burial will follow the service at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell. The family will receive guests at the Bowen home.
Jimmie was born July 14, 1926, in Gunsight, TX to Delphia (Ledbetter) and Lee Bowen. He attended school in Breckenridge and graduated high school in 1943. He married Frances Harrell on April 22, 1971, in San Angelo. Jimmie served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, serving in the South Atlantic Theatre of War. He was discharged in August, 1946. Jimmie was employed by J.E. Cox and Sons, Inc., for 39 years. He then was employed by General Telephone Co. for 5 years in San Angelo, TX. He later retired and moved to Haskell where he was a member of the Church of Christ until his death.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Frances Harrell Bowen; his son, Gary Bowen and wife Leslee of San Angelo; his daughter, Carol Trueblood and husband Richard of Haskell; five grandchildren, Trent and Lane Bowen, Megan Belew, David Meyer, and Melissa Velasco; as well as ten great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Delphia and Lee Bowen; his daughter, Carol Meyer; his son, Keith Hamilton; and his sister, Jerry Jones.
Memorials may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Haskell Church of Christ and Hendrick Hospice.
