JoAnn Nichols Long, resident of Woodson, Texas, passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014, at the age of 54. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Woodson with Bros. Robert Hodgekiss and Peter Parker officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Woodson Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Thursday evening, April 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home located at 107 N. Austin.
JoAnn Nichols was born February 8, 1960 in Big Spring, Texas to Zelma Fay (Hurst) and Charles Hubbard Nichols. She married Larry Dean Long in Odessa, Texas on January 4, 1983. Mrs. Long was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodson and a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Hubbard Nichols; grandfather and grandmother; and a nephew, Aarron Michael Parrott.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 31 years, Larry Dean Long; 6 children, Christy Garcia and husband Omar, Lance Long, Kandi Shaw, Jeffrey Long and wife Colleen, Billy Long, Brandon Long; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. She is also survived by her mother, Zelma Fay Hurst; grandmother, Dorothy Helm; 4 sisters, Susan McDonald and husband George, Linda Bennis and husband Bill, Connie Lee and husband Marchelle, Charlotte Durham and husband Mark; and one brother, Charles Hubbard Nichols II.
Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Long are Lee Blue, Russel Blue, George McDonald, Marchelle Lee, Bill Bennis, Mark Durham, Justin Garcia, and Anthony Long.
