Joe Barnard, 65, a longtime resident of Knox City, TX, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017. It was Joe's wish that his body be donated to science. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Knox City with Rev. Derrell Marion and Mr. Max Spencer officiating. A reception will follow service at the Wooden Nickel, Knox City. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.

Joe was born March 21, 1952 in Knox City, to Rebecca Hackfield Beck and R.P. Barnard. He graduated from Knox City High School in 1970. He married Barbara Wallace on July 22, 1978 in Rotan, TX. Joe attended Texas Tech University. He worked various places before he and Barbara purchased the Knox City flower shop in 1981. Joe was also a long time employee of Lynn Electric Motor Company. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Knox City, and loved gardening and helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Barnard of Knox City; daughter, Melissa Ellison and husband Matthew of San Angelo; son, Brackston Barnard of Knox City; two grandsons, Taigen Barnard of Knox City, Jackson Ellison of San Angelo; granddaughter, Briley Barnard of Knox City; three brothers, Richard Barnard of Ft. Worth, Payton Tankersley and wife Kristi of Knox City, Andy Barnard of Knox City; sister, Cheryl Farr and husband Michael of Onalaska, three sister-in-laws, Linda Deen and husband Jerry of Rotan, Lura Payne and husband Oran of Cleburne, Brenda Goodwin and husband James of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rebecca Hackfield Beck and R.P. Barnard.
