Joe Wayne Hastey, 80, a long time resident of Lubbock passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in Haskell, Texas. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Joe was born March 17, 1936 in Weinert to Easter Elizabeth (Guffey) and Sam Ennis Hastey. He married Maxine Hastey in Lubbock, January 24, 1959. Joe was a former resident of Haskell. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a carpenter and enjoyed donating his time and skills to help build small churches for congregations in need. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Hunt and husband William "Bud" of Haskell; two sons, Sam Hastey of Sweetwater, and Kelly Hastey and wife Kimm of Lubbock.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife; three sisters, June Blanchard, Mae Harrison, and Jane Wilkinson.
