Joel Jackson "Jack" Medford

June 24, 1928 — August 20, 2013

Joel Jackson "Jack" Medford, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Munday Nursing Center in Munday. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2013 at Willow Cemetery in Haskell with Rev. Dustin Wilhite officiating. Visitation is planned for Thursday evening, August 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home, 304 N. 2nd Street, Haskell, TX 79521.

One of three boys, Jack was born June 24, 1928 to Ophelia (Josselet) and Marvin Medford in Josselet Switch, Haskell County. He married Ruby Lee Klose in Haskell on May 14, 1949. Jack enjoyed farming, coaching Little League Baseball and Little Dribblers Basketball; he was a loyal volunteer fireman and a dedicated golfer. He retired from the bread route for Mrs. Baird's and manager of Haskell Country Club. Jack was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Haskell.

Jack is preceded in death by his son, Robin Mark Medford; his parents, Marvin and Ophelia Medford; a brother, Leroy Medford.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Medford of Munday; daughter, Janice Verhalen and husband Laval M. of Munday; brother, Buster Medford of Ohio; 2 granddaughters, Sheri Urbanczyk and husband Greg, and Rhonda Cooke and husband Jimmie; 3 great-granddaughters, Anna, Aleeya, and Eme Urbanczyk; 2 great-grandsons, Lane Byers and John Mark Cooke; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers for Jack are his family members; Jimmie Cooke, Greg Urbanczyk, Chris Moore, Corey Moore, Eddie Medford, Lane Byers, and Van Josselet.
