John H. "Buzz" Hisey resident of Rule, Texas passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas surrounded by his family. Mr. Hisey was 88. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Haskell with Rev. Tom Long, Rev. Dustin Wilhite, and David Elmore officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Friday evening, May 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule located at 600 Robins.
One of 5 children, Buzz, as he was known to everyone, was born May 14, 1926, in Haskell County to Eva (Stark) and Almos H. Hisey. He married Lou Kuenstler in Haskell on November 21, 1944. They were married 63 years before her death on September 9, 2007.
Buzz was drafted on December 28, 1944, into the U.S. Army where he served overseas during WWII. While serving, he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, 2 overseas service Bars; and Army Occupation Ribbon-Japan. Buzz was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on October 15, 1949.
Buzz had a loving nature and he was always making someone laugh with his quick wit. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife Lou, Buzz is preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Almos Hisey; granddaughter, Deborah Ivey; brother, Hollis Hisey; and 2 sisters, Ruby Letz and Bonnie McFarland.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his daughter, Brenda Castleberry of Abilene; 2 sons, Danny Hisey and wife Melinda of Rule and Don Hisey also of Rule; brother, Doyle Hisey of Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren, Susan Toponce, Tim Whitley, Angela Conaway, Amy Teichelman, Jonathan Hisey, Grant Williamson, Jenny Easterling, and Luke Hisey; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers for Buzz are Doug Easterling, Jonathan Hisey, Tim Whitley, Chad Teichelman, Jeff Conaway, Luke Hisey, Grant Williamson, and Chris Toponce.
The family would like to thank the excellent care given to their father and grandfather by the nurses on Parker 7.
