John Cordell Cooper, Sr., longtime resident of Rule, Texas passed away Wednesday evening, December 10, 2014, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. Mr. Cooper was 76. A visitation is planned for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the funeral home in Rule located at 600 Robins Avenue. Cremation arrangements were made under the care of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
John was born August 18, 1938, in Tulia, Texas to Faye (Embry) and Harrold Cooper. After graduating high school and 2 years of college, John entered the United States Army and served his country during the Viet Nam Era as a helicopter pilot. John retired and was Honorably discharged from Fort Wainwright, Alaska on September 30, 1975. He married Terrie O'Toole on November 17, 1979, in St. Louis, MO. John was active in the VFW and enjoyed playing pinnacle.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Terrie of Rule; 4 sons, John Cooper, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Lewis Cooper, R.J. Cooper, and Brandon Cooper all of Rule; 5 daughters, Darla Robertson of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patricia Yamashita of Kona, Hawaii, Sharon Robinson and Rose Cooper of Carbondale, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Clayton Cooper of Leavenworth, Kansas; and John's former spouse, Lorretta Gunn of Fairbanks, Alaska.
