John L. Greeson

November 18, 1935 — June 14, 2014

John L. Greeson, 78, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Hendrick Health System in Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Rule school auditorium in Rule, Texas with Mr. David Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Tuesday evening, June 17, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule.

John was born November 18, 1935 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Ethel (Duncan) and Emerson Greeson and grew up in Hydro, Oklahoma. He married Orheana (Jones) August 31, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas and then moved to Rule in October of 1965. John was a devoted disciple of our Lord and a minster; he preached at Midway, Oklahoma, Maysville, Oklahoma, Ackerly, Texas, Ropesville, Texas and then Rule, Texas. He directed sessions for 30 years at Quartz Mountain Christian Camp, he was involved with Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp Golden Agers Retreat, and helped with prison ministry. He was a member of Rotary Club, worked with Little League, and a Cub Scout Den Leader. He loved people and sports.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, Orheana of Rule, Texas; 2 daughters, Vicki Hoffman and husband Don of Midland, Texas and Leigh Ann Greeson of Stamford, Texas; 1 son, Leon Greeson of Plano, Texas; 1 brother, Tom Greeson and wife Jan of Benntonville, Arkansas; 1 sister, Nancy Wright and husband Millard of Copper Canyon, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Shiela McCaffrey, C.W. Porter, Paige Switzer, Dave Putnam, Lacey Greeson, and Abigail Hoffman; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be given to The Children's Home of Lubbock , 4404 Idalou Rd., Lubbock, Texas 79403.
