John Nanez, 77, a longtime resident of Rule, TX, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the St. George Catholic Church, Haskell with Father Angelo Consemino officiating. Burial will follow services at the Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017, at the funeral home, 600 Robins Ave., Rule, TX.
John was born February 21, 1940 in Sugarland, to Isabell (Gonzales) and Juan Nanez. John loved playing bingo, slot machines, and lottery scratch off tickets.
He is survived by his wife, Audelia Nanez of Rule; two daughters, Victoria Torres and husband Joe of Abilene, Linda Abila and husband Mario of Knox City; son, Pete Torres, Jr., and wife Kaylynn of Colorado City; three sisters, Ignacia Galvia of Abilene, Esperanza Garcia of Uvalde, Maria Martinez and husband Martin of Abilene; brother, Roy Garcia of Uvalde; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Isabell Garcia; father, Juan Nanez; sister, Gloria Garcia; and great-grandson, Jayce Abila.
