John Emory Northam

October 4, 1942 — April 26, 2014

John Emory Northam, longtime resident of Throckmorton, Texas passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 at his home. Mr. Northam was 71. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Woodson Cemetery with Rev. Peter Parker officiating. Visitation is planned for Monday evening, April 28 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home located at 107 N. Austin in Throckmorton.

John was born October 4, 1942 in Floydada, Texas to Mary Joan (Cambell) and J.T. Northam. The family later moved to Jud, Texas. On June 30, 1960, John entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam Era as a bulk fuel pumping station operator. He was honorably discharged June 29, 1964, from Camp Pendelton, California as a Corporal.

He married Linda Daniel on August 27, 1964, and together, they had two children. John enjoyed working as a cowboy and later in the oilfield, but for more than 18 years, worked for Coastal Transport transporting fuel. After leaving Coastal, he worked in and around Throckmorton as a pumper. John had a love for his friends and music and loved to go fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Mary Joan Northam.

John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Northam of Throckmorton; a son, John Brandon Northam and wife Melissa of Throckmorton; daughter, SusAnne LaRay Northam of Fort Worth, Texas; 5 granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Serving as Honorary pallbearers for John are Larry Hargrove, David Epley, Bower Dean, and Doyle Strickland and Burl Moses.
