Johnnie Wayne Clary

November 5, 1953 — June 8, 2021

Johnnie W. Clary, 67, went peacefully to the Lord on Tuesday evening, June 8, 2021. He was a gentle loving good man who loved family and friends with his whole heart. He was a strong dedicated husband, brother, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. "Dub" Clary; mother, Marie Deason Clary; and sister, Anita Clary.

Johnnie was born November 5, 1953 in Floydada, Texas and the family moved to Plains, Texas when he was around 5. He grew up in Plains and graduated Plains High School in 1973. He made many deep and lasting friendships there and was deeply loved and cared for by Elvis Ray "Bear Paw" Wauson and wife Nellie Margrett Cater Wauson and their sons and daughters after the loss of his mother and father before finishing high school.

After graduation John began a career with the Texas Highway Department in Lubbock where he worked over 30 years retiring in 2006. John loved many things…Texas Tech Football, all things Texas, fishing, family, friends, and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Paula A. Clary and their very spoiled dog, Buddy Boy Clary; loving foster brothers and sisters, Wayne Wauson and wife Mary of Muleshoe, TX, Gene and wife Janette of Brownfield, Robert and wife Brenda of Muleshoe, Pauline Deen of Knox City, TX, Priscilla and husband Rodney of Farwell, TX, Gloria Wauson Compton Johnson and husband Steve of Fort Worth; Theada Wauson of Knox City; many many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

He loved well and was well loved in return.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Knox City with Pastor Curtis Schrader officiating. Burial will follow service at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.
