Johnnie James Messenger passed away from this life Saturday, June 2, 2012 in Comanche, Texas at the age of 83. He was united in marriage to Mary Laredo Boling of Albany on July 10, 1954.
Johnnie was a lifelong resident of Throckmorton, Texas until 2005, when he moved to Comanche to be closer to family members. He retired from the City of Throckmorton after 29 years of service and then went on to work at the Throckmorton Independent School District where he retired 13 years later. Johnnie was a faithful member of the Throckmorton and Comanche Church of Christ.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Mary Laredo Messenger of Western Hills Nursing Home in Comanche; a sister, Rhoda Mae Mays of Dimmitt, Texas; 3 daughters, Janie Bell of Abilene, Laura Shiels and husband John of Fort Worth, Diane Bailey and husband Eddie of Leander; his son, Dewayne Messenger and spouse Ray Knapp of Reading, Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren, Heath, Kristi, Ryan, Merrissa, Cody, Danielle, Derek, and Dawson; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Throckmorton Church of Christ with Mr. Greg Melton officiating. Burial will be at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening, June 6, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Throckmorton.
