Joyce Marie Thomas, 82, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 7, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell with Dr. Troy Culpepper and Rev. Morris Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Joyce Marie Reding was born February 13, 1930 in Bell County, Texas to J.H. and Annie (Morris) Reding. She moved to Haskell County in 1942, when she was 12 years old, and Haskell has since remained her home. Joyce married Lewis E. Thomas on June 18, 1950 and was a devoted wife and loving mother. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church where she enjoyed volunteering her time in many different capacities. Mrs. Thomas also delivered meals to the homebound which she delighted in doing. Of all her accomplishments, her greatest joy were her grandchildren, of which, she loved spending time with and doting over.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.H. and Annie Reding; and 1 brother, Howard Reding.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lewis Thomas of Haskell; 2 daughters, Suzanne Wollard and husband Mike of Bryan, Texas, and Debbie Scheffel and husband Rickey of Lubbock, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Cody Wollard and wife Kristen of Shoreacres, Texas, Tanner Wollard and wife Michelle of Bryan, Texas, Todd Scheffel and Kaylee Scheffel, both of Lubbock, Texas; 2 great-granddaughters, Avery and Emerson Wollard of Bryan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
