Juan Rodriguez Herrera, Sr., lifelong resident of Rule, Texas, passed away Monday afternoon, October 29, 2012 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He was 57. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Art Flores and Rev. John Greeson officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Wednesday evening, October 31 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Juan Herrera was born on October 30, 1954 in Rule, Texas to Victoria (Rodriquez) and Jesus H. Herrera, Sr. He married Yolanda Ledesma in Benjamin on January 18, 1974 and they continued to make Rule their home. Mr. Herrera enjoyed the outdoors and one of his favorite hobbies was spending many hours fishing with his son, Juan Jr. Father and son later joined one another in business and developed Double J Equipment where each was co-owner. Prior to this partnership, Juan Sr. custom harvested for many years in Haskell County. Juan and Yolanda enjoyed riding out in the country together and Juan loved spending summers with his 2 granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus Herrera, Sr.
Juan is survived by his wife, Yolanda Herrera of Rule; his son, Juan Herrera, Jr., and wife Melissa of Rochester; 2 granddaughters, Christina Jenae and Jillian Lita Herrera of Rochester; mother, Victoria Herrera of Rule; 3 brothers, Jesus Herrera, Jr., and wife Lupe of Jourdanton, Texas, Paul Calvillo and wife Ester of Ft. Worth, Texas, Raymond Herrera of Abilene; 3 sisters, Maria Calvillo of Frisco, Helen Perez and husband Johnny of Breckenridge, Texas, and Linda Herrera of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
