Kathleen Burnett Diggs, 103, went to be with our Lord and savior on January 19, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. She was a month shy of reaching her 104th birthday. A graveside service will be held at the Willow Cemetery in Haskell, TX, at 2:00PM Saturday, January 22, 2022, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Kathleen was born on February 19, 1918, in Winfield, TX (Titus County) to W.L. and Maud Burnett. Kathleen and her family moved to Pittsburg, TX when she was a young child. She attended Pittsburg schools through graduation. She then attended her beloved East Texas Teacher's College in Commerce, TX. It was during her time there she had the calling to become an educator. She received her Bachelor's and two Master's degree's there. After graduation, she taught English, Speech and Drama in Port Neches, TX, Van, TX, Munday, TX and settled in Haskell, TX retiring in 1980. Kathleen was a beloved teacher who helped mold many young minds in a positive manner. She is known for her many first place One Act Plays in the Texas UIL Contest. Many of her students have stayed in touch with her throughout the years sending her many "Thank You's"on the positive impact she had on their lives. Kathleen was proud of her East Texas and West Texas roots. She loved her Lord, family, friends, country, students and football, (especially Peyton Manning). Kathleen married the love of her life, Major Terry Milam Diggs, during WWII becoming an avid military wife.
She is preceded in death by her parents, W.L. and Maud Burnett; her husband, Major Terry Milam Diggs in 2004; her beloved daughter, Terry Kay Diggs Helft; and brother Bill Burnett.
Kathleen is survived by her niece, Judy Burnett Houser and husband Dick Houser; nephews, Ken McCollum and John McCollum and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.
