Kent Scrogum, of Throckmorton, Texas passed away at his home, Monday morning, April 21, 2014, in Throckmorton. He was 70 years old. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2014, at the First Baptist Church inThrockmorton with Rev. Charles Fisher officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his mother, Tressie, at the Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton immediately following the services. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 24 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 107 N. Austin.
Kent was born February 18, 1944, in Bowie, Texas to Tressie Vee (Cook) and William Otis "Dub" Scrogum. After graduation from high school, Kent left to serve in the United States Army and served his time in Vietnam. Kent was honorably discharged, and with distinction, awarded 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal. He married Gwendolyn "Sissy" Hall on April 14, 1988, in Throckmorton. He loved being a cowboy and enjoyed playing dominoes and solitaire. Kent was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dub and Tressie Scrogum.
Kent is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sissy, of Throckmorton; his 2 sons, Shawn Scrogum of Archer City, and Monty Scrogum of Throckmorton; 4 grandchildren, Lacy, Tyler, Piper, and Carson; 1 great-grandchild, Averie; sister, Joyce Dyer of Clyde; niece, Brandi Gilmore also of Clyde; life long friend, Pam Vest; great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Serving as pallbearers for Kent are Larry Rankin, Corky Boland, Jimmy Cy Johnson, Mikey Carl, Garry Harris, and Jim Whitfield.
