Laurence O'Dwyer, a leading artist with Theatre Three since 1962, died Friday morning, February 28, 2014 in Knox City, Texas. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Theatre Three in Dallas. Mr. O'Dwyer was 77.
Laurence O'Dwyer was born in Washington, D.C. and studied at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. He became a staple of the local theater scene when he arrived in Dallas and helping Theatre Three to promote huge hits.
In 2009, he moved to Baltimore where he was an associate artist at the city's Center Stage. In 2010, he won the Helen Hayes Award for his performance in "The Fantasticks" at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.
He had been in poor health following surgery for colon cancer in 2012. He moved to Knox City in July where he was cared for by his longtime friend, Ricky Tankersly, who survives him.
