One of Knox County's longest native citizen, Lela Mae Pack passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at the age of 94.
Lela Mae Simmons was born in Sunset on September 21, 1917 to Jeff and Mary Simmons. She married W.E. (Pete) Pack on September 28, 1935. Pete passed away in 1999. Pete and Lela Mae were married for 64 years and had three boys, Don, Gary, and Randy. Lela Mae worked as a nurse for Knox County Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1989. She loved having served so many neighbors and friends. One of her proudest moments in life was being valedictorian of the LVN class of 1970 at Vernon Regional College. Lela Mae was active in the Knox County Hospital Auxilliary and the United Methodist Women. She loved her neighbors and appreciated the community of Knox City. She has been a blessing to her son Randy's household for the last four months and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Pack; parents, Jeff and Mary Simmons; and her son, Gary Pack.
Lela Mae is survived by eldest son Don Pack of Houston, her youngest son, Randy Pack and his wife Suzy of Odessa and their daughters, Emily Ann and Katie; Gary's widow, Linda Pack of Kilgore and their daughter, Crystal Johnson and her husband Nathaniel of Las Vegas, Nevada and children, Christain, Jayden, and Trenton Bell; daughter Amber Browning and husband John of Lindale and son, Aaron; and their son, Gary Lynn Pack, Jr. and his fiance Hollie Hunter of Kerrville and their son, Carter Pack. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and special friends, Lois Cypert and the ladies of Knox City's UMW.
The family will welcome friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15 at the funeral home in Knox City. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
