Funeral services for Loraine Powers will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Benjamin Community Center in Benjamin, Texas with Rev. Bob Miller and Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Benjamin Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of Knox City.

Loraine Clower Powers passed from this life on December 16, 2012 in Midland, Texas. She was born on May 5, 1935 in Benjamin, Texas to Clarence and Maudie (Smith) Clower. She was raised and educated in Benjamin and attended American Business College in Midland. She married Bill Powers on June 7, 1952 in Seymour, Texas. After their marriage they resided on the Beavers Ranch in Benjamin, the Big 4 Ranch in Truscott, the Turkey Track Ranch in Hagerman, New Mexico and in 1962, they moved to Midland where they resided until Loraine moved back to Benjamin in 2004 where she remained until her death.

Loraine worked for Elliott & Waldron Abstract Company as secretary, West Texas Abstract & Title Company as Abstracter, Tretolite Oil Company as billing clerk, all while she lived in Midland. For a period of time she was employed with Lawyers Title Agency of Odessa as Abstracter, but returned to West Texas Abstract & Title Company in 1989 where she remained until her retirement in 1994. She served as Treasurer of the Ex Students Association; Benjamin City Council; the board of the Knox County Historical Commission; and Keep Benjamin Beautiful. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Benjamin.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Powers; her parents, Clarence and Maudie Clower; her brother, Billy Joe Clower; 2 nephews, Bud Clower and Bobby D. Powers; and in-laws, Dee and Leta (Harrison) Powers.

She is survived by her daughter, Chris Stroup and husband Earl; son, Steve Powers and wife Maggie, all of Midland; 5 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; very special sister, Gloria West; a brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
