Loudell Webb Barbee was born July 2, 1922 to W.W. (Buck) and Lula Cannon Webb in Rule, TX. She passed away at the age of 94 March 2, 2017 in Haskell, TX.
Burial will be at the Rule Cemetery, Rule, TX at 1:00 p.m., Sunday March 5, 2017 under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. At 2:00 p.m. a memorial celebration for Loudell will follow at the First Presbyterian Church, Haskell, TX with Pastor Kelly Pigott officiating.
Loudell and some other young ladies caught a train to Wichita, KS and worked for Beech Craft Airplanes, being among the first of the original Rosie the Riveters, as they were known in World War II. With an ever keen eye for flaws, Loudell was made Inspector. Being so small Loudell easily fit in the nose of the air crafts making sure the air crafts were safe and flawless in that area.
Loudell and Truman Barbee were married in Sweetwater, TX on their way to California where their only child, Louetta was born.
A few years later they moved back to their beloved Rule and farmed. Loudell worked for many years at the drug store and was known to make the best milkshakes, malts, and sweet cherry limes anywhere around.
Several years after Truman passed away Loudell moved to Haskell and was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Haskell, always being the first one there on Sunday mornings.
Nana, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved watching all the their activities and never wanted to miss a thing they were in. Next to her family and church Loudell loved Christmas and had her house decorated, all the many presents bought and wrapped by October and was starting on the next year.
Anxiously waiting for Loudell to welcome her home were her husband, Truman; parents, Buck and Lula Webb; two sisters, Pearl Frazier, and Jewell Rogers, four brothers, Lee, Lloyd, Clovis, and Weldon Webb.
She is loving survived by daughter, Louetta and J.W. Wallace; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Shane and Amanda Hadaway, Carson, Reagan, and Hollyn; Loutina and Kyle White and Jaxon - all of Haskell; and Nole and Kristina Hadaway, Kambree and soon to be born Lucy of Abilene.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.W. Wallace, Shane Hadaway, Nole Hadaway, Kyle White, Jaxon White, Ray Penman, Larry Barbee, and Gene Gibbs.
If you so desire you may make a donation in Loudell's name to First Presbyterian Church PO Box 56 Haskell, TX 79521, or a charity of your choice,
