Louis Baty, Sr.

Louis Baty, Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Gilliland, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 18 , 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Gilliland Cemetery, Gilliland. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 200 S. Central Ave, Knox City.

Louis was born April 12, 1929 in Gilliland, Texas to Mary (llseng) and Ray Hiram Baty. He married Lula Ann (Scott) on March 7, 1959 in Gilliland. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Gilliland. Louis served on the board of directors of B-K Electric, Federal Land Bank, Wichita Brazos Soil and Water Conservation District, Farmers Coop Gin, Farmers Coop Elevator, Knox County Appraisal District, as well as the school board for Benjamin ISD, and Gilliland CSD. He retired from farming at 90 years of age; he and his wife Lula were recipients of the Texas Family Land Heritage for 100 year farms for the years 1996 and 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Baty of the home; son, Steve (April) Baty, Crowell and Louis Lee (Sheri) Baty of Knox City; grandkids, Jennifer, James, Tina, Chloe, Sheldon, and Chance. Also numerous great grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ray Baty; son, Alan Ray Baty; grandsons, Justin Baty, Lyndon Baty, and Kyndal Baty; and brother, J.C. Baty.
