Mack Pirtle, 58, of Throckmorton, one of the founders of the town's World Championship Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival, passed away on September 6, 2017 in Wichita Falls, TX
William Mack Pirtle was born January 9, 1959 in Olney, TX, to Mavis (Gaither) and Rueben Pirtle. Mack was a 1977 graduate of Throckmorton High School in Throckmorton, TX, and later graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor Degree in General Studies.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Throckmorton with Rev. Jay Gage officiating. Burial will follow services at the Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the funeral home, 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton, TX.
Mack participated in area community theater productions as well as the town's wild game dinners.
At the time of his death he was an employee of the Texas Department of Transportation, Throckmorton office.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Travis Pirtle of Throckmorton; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Walraven and husband Ed of Bryan, and Ruth Ann Black and husband John of Houston; two nieces, Jennifer Elizabeth Black of Houston, and Sarah Dene Black Langston and husband Brandon of Magnolia; three nephews, Wes Walraven and wife Crystal, Joe Walraven and wife April, and Sean Walraven, all of Bryan and College Station; one grandniece, Claire Langston; six grandnephews, Eli Walraven, Logan Walraven, Hunter Walraven, Kyle Walraven, Luke Walraven, all of College Station, and Owen Langston of Magnolia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, R.C. "Junior" Pirtle and Mavis E. (Gaither) Pirtle of Throckmorton.
The family requests memorials be made in Mack's name to the Hospice of Wichita Falls where Mack received outstanding care.
