Margaret "Jinx" Virginia Shaver

August 17, 1946 — February 8, 2025

Margaret Virginia Reeder Shaver, affectionately known by everyone as Jinx, left her earthly home on February 8, 2025 at the age of 78 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Cemetery with Riley Carver officiating under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rochester.

Jinx was born August 17, 1946 to Joe Reeder, Jr. and Maurine Davidson Reeder in Knox City, TX. She graduated from Knox City High School in 1964 and attended TCU. She married the love of her life, R.A. Shaver, III, on June 23, 1967 and finished her college education at West Texas State University.

In 1968, R.A. and Jinx moved to Rochester to raise their family and farm. Jinx quickly converted from a Knox City Greyhound to a Rochester Steer. She could be found at her kids activities, booster club meetings, church activities or helping R.A. around the house and on the farm. In 1986 Jinx decided to begin her teaching career in Rochester. She taught 6th grade, 1st grade and was also the business manager during her tenure at Rochester. She finished her teaching career teaching 1st grade in Knox City in the same classroom where she went to 1st grade. Jinx took great pride in teaching kids to read. She retired in 2012, but continued to substitute teach for several years. Jinx was a talented pianist and played the piano for the First United Methodist Church in Rochester until the church closed and played for the First United Methodist Church in Knox City.

Jinx loved it when her family was together. There was always a chocolate cake and several pans of homemade hot rolls anytime her kids and grandkids were there. She taught her grandkids to play Skip-Bo and you could be sure that there would be a domino game when everyone was home. Jinx found a love of quilting later in life and she made sure that her grandchildren all had a quilt. She loved Monday morning coffee with her ladies in the Rochester Ladies group and looked forward to visiting with them. When her grandchildren began competing in sports, she once again became a Knox City Greyhound as well as a Stamford Bulldog.

Jinx was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lauren Julia Mathis.

Jinx is survived by her husband of 57 years, R.A. of Rochester; 2 sons, Richard and his wife Rebecca of Abilene, and Ross and his girlfriend Shawna Kiser of Rochester; 1 daughter, Jennifer and her husband Dale Caddell of Stamford; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Andy and his wife Jessy of Knox City and their children Reese and Jameson, Zach and his wife Shelby of Throckmorton and their children Dylan, Landyn and Pierson, John of Weatherford, Ryan and his son Laken of Weatherford, Emily of Benjamin, Chandler Caddell and his wife Ramzi and their children Spade, Brazos and Wytten of Fort Stockton, Brooklyn Gillit and her husband Caston of Abilene and their children Kiptyn and Callahan, McKenzie Sheppard and her husband Colby of Whitesboro and their children Magnolia and Jolee, and Allie and Cutter Caddell of Stamford; her brother Joe Reeder, III and his wife Celia of Fort Worth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at the Munday Nursing Center, Hospice of Wichita Falls, Knox County Hospital and Stonewall Memorial Hospital for the care and support they provided for Jinx during her final months. Their kindness and compassion were a blessing to Jinx and her family. Memorials can be made to the Rochester Cemetery Association.
