Margie (Motsie) Casey

Margie "Motsie" Casey, 88, a long time resident of Rule, Texas, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Rule with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Burial will follow services at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rule. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00p.m., Monday, April 16, 2018 at the funeral home, 600 Robins Ave., Rule, TX.

Margie was born September 29, 1929 in Tulia, Texas to Thomas Dewey and Ethel Rena Camper. Margie came to know Christ as her Lord and Savior at Prewitt Baptist Church in Arkansas and was baptized there in 1939. She married Lamar Casey on October 2, 1948 in Rule, Texas and she became a member of Rule Church of Christ. As a young girl growing up in Arkansas, Margie would receive one box of colored pencils each year. This fostered in her a love of art that she continued to develop throughout her lifetime. In 1960's, Margie studied under Frederick Taubes at the Carrizo Lodge in Ruidoso, NM. This led to her studies in landscape and florals in the 1970's. Margie became proficient in the mediums of oil and water colors. Margie then broadened her study of art to include china painting in the early 1980's under Anita Herren in Haskell, TX. Margie continued to develop her art in many mediums, with oil painting being her preferred method of artistic expression. Margie was a member of Bridge clubs, the Brazos Country Art Club, China Painting Organizations, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Margie and Lamar owned and operated the Bluebonnet and Drug Store Cafe in Rule, TX from 1949-2001 as well as Casey's Cabins in Ruidoso, NM from 1960-1979.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Jeanne Parr and husband David of Rule; son, Gary Lee Casey of Rule; granddaughter, Tonja Jeanne Lowry and husband Stephen of Abilene; three grandsons, Thomas Lee Casey of Rule, Casey Wayne Parr of Smithville, MO, and Michael Martin Casey of Rule; daughter-in-law, Julie Ann Casey of Rule; five great granddaughters, Madeline Claire Lowry of Abilene, Emma Caroline Lowry of Abilene, Rylie Ann Parr of Smithville, MO, Abbie Lynn Parr of Smithville, MO, and Katelyn Jean Casey of Rule; two great grandsons, Jack Henry Lowry of Abilene, and Jacob Thomas Casey of Rule.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Lamar Casey; son, Thomas Rudy Casey; four brothers, Buck Camper, Pete Camper, Lloyd Camper, Tommy Camper; two sisters, Mary Fitzgerald, and Joan Mann.

Memorials can be given in Margie's name to John Greeson Memorial Scholarship, and Hendrick Hospice.
