Marguerite Maurine Gauntt

Marguerite Maurine Gauntt, former resident of Rochester, Texas passed away Thursday evening, December 12, 2013 at the Care Inn of Abilene in Abilene, Texas. Mrs. Gauntt was 85. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Rochester with Bro. Joseph Barrett and Debbie Hines officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Rochester Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, December 15, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rochester.

Marguerite Maurine Clark was born February 8, 1928 in Rochester to Mary Josephine (Cerveny) and Carl Clark. She attended Rochester Scholl and graduated with honors in 1945. She married her soul mate, Clarence Gauntt on April 3, 1946 in Rochester and soon became a mother to Carl Wayne and later blessed with Cindy and Buddy. Carl Wayne preceded her in death on June 11, 1962. At the age of 53, she graduated as Salutatorian from the Vernon Nursing School. She worked at Haskell Memorial Hospital and chosen as Employee of the Year in 1995. Upon retiring, Marguerite devoted herself to the care of Clarence as he had become very ill. Clarence passed away March 7, 1996 after nearly 50 years of marriage.

Marguerite was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the W.M.U. for many years. She was a loyal employee of Smith Family Funeral Homes, where over the years, greeted many visitors at the Rochester Funeral Home. Because of her love for history, she was a co-author on 3 books, "When the Rails Were Laid", "Cooking in Rochester", and "A Century In The Rochester Area". She believed everyone should make their community a better place to live. Marguerite was a member of the Woman's Literary Club, serving as President twice, President of Homecoming, worked for the establishment of two Rochester Museums, and was involved in numerous skits, plays, homecomings, and parades over the years.

Again, she is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Carl Clark; her dear husband, Clarence; and her loving son, Carl Wayne.

Marguerite leaves behind her 2 children, Cindy Hearn of Abilene and Bud Gauntt and wife Deborah of Arlington; sister, Junita Beauchamp and husband Jim of Rochester; 8 grandchildren, Shawndra Watson and husband David of Comanche, Oklahoma, Alexy Lampe of Abilene, Brandi Labadia of Three Rivers, Michigan, Brian Hearn of Rochester, Angela Gauntt and husband Charlie Watson of Coleman, Misty Lampe and husband Cecil of Abilene, Cory Gauntt and wife Nanette of Burlson, Renee Fuston of Hurst; 20 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great children and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
