Maria Contreras

Maria Contreras, 61, of Stamford, Texas passed away early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. George Catholic Church in Haskell with Fr. George Roney officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Maria was born September 12, 1951 in Haskell, Texas to Jose and Clara Contreras. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and preferred not watching a game with anyone that wasn't a Cowboy fan. Maria also loved going to church and praising God.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Clara Contreras; 3 sisters, Mary Garcia, Golla Rivera, Guadalupe Granado; 2 brothers, Perfecto Ruiz, and Simon Contreras.

Maria is survived by 4 brothers, Frank Contreras, Jose Contreras, Grabiel Contreras, Enrique Contreras; 4 sisters, Josefina De La Rosa, Mary Medina, Louisa Contreras, Consuelo Rodriquez; her childhood and long time special friend, Aurora Aguilar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
