Her chains are gone, she's been set free. Marie Evelyn Brown "ReRe" Jackson walked through Heaven's gates in the early morning hours of August 3rd, just a few days after her 92nd birthday.
For those in the Knox City area who wish to pay respects and sign the guest book, an open viewing at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City, on Friday, August 4th, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00, no formal visitation. On Saturday, August 5th, a funeral service will be held at the Aurora Baptist Church Chapel at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bro. Jimmy Withers and Rev. Robert Griffin. Internment immediately following at the Aurora Cemetery. Before the service @ 10:00, there will be an informal gathering in the fellowship hall.
Marie was born in Aurora, Texas on July 29, 1931, an only child to James A. and Myrtie Slimp Brown. She married George A. Jackson, Jr. in June of 1947, at the Aurora Baptist church parsonage, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and continued sub-contract work with her husband for AT&T until moving to Knox City in 2002. Marie was a member of AT&T Pioneers, a past member of the Order of Eastern Star, a life long member of the Aurora Baptist Church, and a spirited Skipbo player.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors are her only daughter, Donna Marie and husband Stan Wojcik of Knox City. A Sister-in-law, Faye (Robert) Griffin of Oklahoma City, special cousin and friend, Cathy Chaney of Athens,Texas, several other cousins, nieces and nephews, a host of friends, and her Brazos Valley Care Home Family.
Memorials can be made to the Aurora Cemetery Association, 303 Derting Road, Aurora Texas, 76078, St. Jude's for children, or charity of your choice.
