Marietta Laverne Heuermann McWhorter was born May 3, 1938 in Taylor County, Texas to Roy D. and Alta M. Heuermann. The third born of 7 children, she grew up and lived all her life in the rural areas around Taylor County.
Marietta was married to David Lee Mitchell on August 27, 1954, and they welcomed their only son, David Wayne Mitchell, on December 25, 1956. After her husband's passing in1964, Marietta put herself through nursing school to provide a better life for her son and continued taking care of the people of surrounding rural communities until her retirement in 2015 at 77 years old, as the Director of Quality Improvement. She spent the majority of her nursing career in Aspermont with the Stonewall Memorial Hospital District and was honored with the Marietta McWhorter Conference/Education room named in recognition of her years of dedication to the Hospital. She was always willing to fill in whenever and wherever needed, often times sacrificing time with her own family while working the weekends and major holidays at the hospital and nursing homes, so those nurses could be home with theirs.
Marietta met Tony McWhorter, and they were married on June 15, 1967, and were inseparable until his death in 2008. They enjoyed nothing more than spending their time out at the lake fishing with the kids and grandkids, in Ruidoso, enjoying the mountain air, or traveling the countryside with Gary and Nancy and their family. After Tony's passing, Marietta was up for any adventure her sisters, her son or the grandkids wanted to go on and would be waiting with her suitcase and flat pillow whenever they showed up to get her. She was happy being wherever they were but was also happy sitting in front of a penny slot, being left alone, for hours on end.
Marietta shared 10 wonderful years with her husband David, and over 40 amazing years with her love Tony, who both preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Alta and Roy Heuermann, two brothers, Bobby Gene Heuermann and Terry Glenn Heuermann, son Jef McWhorter, son in law David Asbill, and her favorite person in the world, son David Wayne Mitchell.
She is survived by her grandchildren - Brandon Mitchell and wife Stephanie, Jarred Mitchell and wife Amber, both of Midland, Hunter Mitchell and Bonnie of Round Rock, and Hailey Mitchell of Lubbock; great grandchildren Kylie of Midland, Brady and wife Marisol of Stanton, Landon of Midland, Karsen of Midland, and Hayden of Round Rock, and one great-great-granddaughter, Eliana Grace of Stanton; she is also survived by daughter Gail Asbil of Forney, and her children Jason Price and his daughters Emma and Abby of Rockwall, Emily Law and husband Brad their daughter Reese, and Carolina Kile and her son Caden, all of Forney, grandson Scott McWhorter of Dallas, her sisters Lorraine Graham of Tuscola, Melva Dean Havener of Kerrville, Glenda Jo Newberry of Abilene, brother Gary Heuermann of Abilene, brother in law Billy Mitchell, and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
We will all miss her infectious laugh, the twinkle in her eye when she was being mischievous, and the "Lawd a mercy" and slapping her hand on the table when she was telling a story or listening to one of ours. She lived her life to help others and her presence will be missed more than words.
The family would like to thank her dear friend Dan Hoover and her caretakers for their help, support and love over the last several years.
