Martha Ann Sampson Spitzer,of Haskell, Texas passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Abilene Regional Hospital in Abilene. Mrs. Spitzer was 86. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Haskell with Lloyd Riddles officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. The family will welcome friends Sunday evening, September 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Haskell.
Martha Ann Mayo was born June 15, 1927 in Ajo, Arizona to Lennie Grace (Tierce) and Grover Cleveland Mayo. She married James Sampson and together they had 3 beautiful daughters, Linda, Phyllis, and Laura. James and Martha were the owners and operators of White Auto Store in Haskell for many years. James preceded her in death in 1991. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School class. She also enjoyed being associated with Brazos Art Club. Martha and her girls continuously felt blessed since the day Garrett Spitzer came into their lives. Martha was fortunate to have 2 husbands in her life that loved and cared for her and her family.
In addition to James, Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Lennie Mayo; her daughter, Linda Burson; 1 brother; 2 sisters; grandson, Scotty Burson; and granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Burson.
Martha will be missed by so many, but those close she leaves behind are husband, Garrett Sptizer of Haskell; her two daughters, Phyllis Letz and husband Danny of Old Glory, Laura Andress and husband Charles of Haskell; step-daughter, Kathleen Seals and husband Jimmy of Clyde; 2 step-sons, Kenny Spitzer of Old Glory, and Weldon Spitzer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jimmy and Melissa Burson of Haskell, Patrick and Angela Burson of Clyde, Jeremy and Jodi Andress of Haskell, Joseph Andress of Haskell, Jennifer Andress of Marble Falls, Casey and Emory Letz of Stamford, Jana and Kevin Conner of Crowell and 16 great-grandchildren.
