Martha Lois Whitford, 71, a longtime resident of Knox City, TX, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Knox City Cemetery with Rev. Andy Needham officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City. A visitation is planned from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the funeral home, 210 Ave A., Knox City, TX.
Martha was born September 12, 1946 in Knox City, to Jewel Gladys (Urssey) and Virgil Robert Ford. She married Tom Whitford on May 26, 1965 in Munday, TX. Martha was a former member of the Church of Christ in Munday and later joined the First Baptist Church in Knox City. She worked as a LVN at local hospitals, schools, home health, and nursing homes. After her career in nursing she loved to provide daycare for local children.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Whitford of Knox City; son, Robert B. Whitford of O'Fallon, IL; three sisters, Kamie Krcik of Tulsa, OK, Wynona Harper of Wichita Falls, and Charlotte Denton of Munday; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Jewel (Urssey) Ford; father, Virgil Robert Ford; and two sisters, Imogene Jones, and Mildred Wicker.
