Mary Eva Bassing

Mary Eva Bassing, 89,of Brownwood, TX, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Church of Christ in Haskell, with Mr. Philip Sims officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.

Mary was born on March 21,1927 in Haskell, to Charlie Frierson and Oretha (Decker) Frierson. Mary graduated Haskell High School in May of 1945 and then married Bennie F. Bassing on September 16, 1945, in Stamford. Mary and Bennie owned and operated Bassing Jewelry for 60 years in Haskell after opening in 1949. She was an active member of The Church of Christ for many years. She also attended First Christian Church in Brownwood as her health permitted.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Zona Lentz and husband Sterling of Brownwood; four grandchildren, Shanna Wright and husband Shawn of Abilene, Sherry Walker and husband Willie of Abilene, Rodney Lentz and companion Angellica of Big Spring, Amanda Bell and husband Eric of Hamlin; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Bell, Jaxon Lenamon, Dillon Bell, Sam Walker, Ida Griffin, Luke Walker, Lexi Walker and Carson Wright; along with many friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Bennie F. Bassing; her parents; and great-grandson, Jacob Lenamon, son of Shanna Wright and John Lenamon.

Mary will be missed by all.
