Mary Frances was born in Slaton, Texas on March 16, 1922, the youngest child and only daughter of Bill and Lillian Reeder. She soon moved with her family to Knox City, a town her grandparents helped establish. Mary Frances married Fuller Shannon, a Knox City native, in 1942. When Fuller's military service ended, the couple made Knox City their home.
Mary Frances loved her family and her friends. She touched the lives of hundreds of children as fifth grade teacher in the Knox City public schools. She had a keen interest in education issues and was an active member of the retired teachers association.
In 2004, Mary Frances moved to Mesa Springs Retirement Community in Abilene. The many friends she made there greatly enriched her last years of her life.
Mary Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Fuller; and 3 brothers, Murray, Ted, and Herman Reeder.
She is survived by her son Patrick Shannon and his wife, Cynthia of Austin; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Austin: Katherine Shannon Clark and husband Adam, and their sons, Wyatt and Mason; Joseph Shannon and wife Maci, and their daughter Hailey; and Andrew Shannon, wife Kate, and daughter Marion. Mary Frances is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Claudia Sue Reeder of Albuquerque, NM and Elizabeth Hargis of Conway, AR, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends its warmest thanks to Margaret Lewis for the loving care she gave to Mary Frances. The family also thanks Drs. Keith Robinson and Dr. Udaya Swarna for their years of attentive care, the nurses and staff at Mesa Springs for their many kindnesses, and the nurses in the progressive care and hospice units at Hendrick Medical Center for making Mary Frances's last days so comfortable.
