May Belle Benton, longtime resident of Haskell, Texas, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene,Texas at the age of 85. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 304 N. 2nd Street, Haskell.
May Belle was born December 13,1929 to George Washington Piland and Bessie Lee (Henshaw) Piland at Old Rose Community in Haskell County. She married Jim Melvin Benton on October 31,1954 in Haskell,Texas. May Belle was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell, Texas. She enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, bird watching, taking care of her roses, but especially loved watching her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Piland and Bessie Lee (Henshaw) Piland; her husband, Jim Melvin Benton; son, Dan Benton; four brothers; and three sisters.
May Belle is survived by her two sons, James Benton and wife Judy and Ben Benton and wife Connie; two daughters, Penny Anderson and husband Brandon and Barbara Haggard and husband Sealy all from Haskell,Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
