Melba Jean Wooten, 70, from Haskell, Texas, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, July 7 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Haskell. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Aspermont Cemetery in Aspermont with Vance Roberts and Rev. Dave Harrison officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Melba Jean Wooten was born July 27, 1942 in Stonewall County, Texas to John Franklin and Emma Alice (Ritchie) Wooten. She was an avid reader and loved painting and puzzles. Melba was a beautician and homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and niece, Carolynn Wooten.

Melba is survived by Leon Kretschner of Haskell; daughter, Renee Tibbles of Ranger, Texas; brother, Leslie Wooten and Mary Celeste of Sweetwater; sister, Doris June Wooten of Brownwood; grandson, Richard Wayne Belyeu of Knox City; granddaughter, Jenny Lynn Cook of Burkburnett; 2 great-grandsons, Jason Wayne Belyeu and Justin Ray Belyeu; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her special friend, Lorretta Hatfield of Haskell.
