Mildred Evelyn Chambers

November 7, 1917 — January 22, 2015

Mildred Evelyn Chambers, long time resident of Rule Texas, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell, Texas. Mildred was 97. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Rule, Texas. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Rule Cemetery in Rule under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Mildred was born November 7, 1917, in Rule, Texas, to Arthur Tilden Fouts and Bethel Meadors Fouts. Mildred was the first of her family to graduate from college in 1939. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Texas Tech University.

She taught school for six years at Brownfield ISD and Monahans ISD. In 1945, she and Ferber Chambers married and began raising their family until his death in 1957. She began teaching school and influenced the lives of numerous boys and girls for another 22 years.

She was a life-time active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and the girls mission program called G.A.'s. Her love of the Lord was evident in many ways especially in her daily Bible reading and prayer life. One of her favorite Bible passages was the 14th chapter of John. She loved to sing and a favorite song of hers was "My Lord Is Near Me All The Time". Her family, church family, and friends witnessed that fact in her daily walk.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ferber Chambers; parents, A.T. and Bethel Fouts; two brothers, Aubrey and Bill Fouts; two sisters, Mahel Daniell and Preble Tanner.

Mildred is survived by her son, Eddie Chambers and wife Jan of Graham, Texas; three daughters, Edith Porter and husband Wayne of Dalhart, Texas; Annella Jo Archer and husband Richard of Paducah, Texas; Sheila Lauchner and husband Rick of Spring, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, A.T. Fouts and wife Betty of Littlefield, Texas; 13 nieces and nephews.
