Modena Horry, 88, lifelong resident of Throckmorton, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at Graham Oaks Care Center in Graham. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Woodson with Rev. Dean Bradley and Rev. Pete Parker officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, September 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Throckmorton.
Della Modena Ash was born September 20, 1924 in Throckmorton to Floy and Eva (McFadin) Ash. She attended and graduated from Throckmorton High School and on December 31, 1947, married Jerry Horry in Breckenridge, Texas. Jerry preceded her in death on June 17, 1991. Modena lived in Woodson, Texas for many years and was a member of the Woodson First Baptist Church, past President of the Lady Elks Club in Breckenridge, and Eastern Star. Mrs. Horry was retired from Citizen's National Bank in Breckenridge.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, Floy Ash and Eva Rankin; stepfather, Rob T. Rankin; brother, J.W. Ash; and sister, Bobbie Marie Ash.
Modena is survived by her 2 sons, J. Rob Horry of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Bobby Horry and wife Kelli of Woodson, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Dustie Hamilton and husband Jeff of Waco, Texas, Toni Horry of Bangs, Texas, Megan Horry of Stephenville, Texas, and Bradley Horry of Stillwater, Oklahoma; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison Hamilton and Taylor Hamilton; brother, Hartsell Ash of Throckmorton.
Modena loved life and lived it to the fullest. She treasured time spent with her family and was active dancing, playing cards, and working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. She will be missed by many.
If desired, memorials can be made in Modena's name to the First Baptist Church of Woodson.
