Myrle Wanda Alexander of Weinert, Texas passed away Thursday evening, May 16, 2013 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mrs. Alexander was 87. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Weinert with Rev. Dan Bullock officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at Weinert Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Saturday evening, May 18 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Myrle Wanda Griffis was born in Anson, Texas on May 15, 1926 to Harvey Dean and Lenora Hazel (Garrett) Griffis. She married Herschel Alexander on December 6, 1945 in Knox City and the couple made Weinert their home. Mrs. Alexander owned and operated H&M Café and also cooked for many years in the Munday School cafeteria. She was a member of Weinert Four Square Church.
Mrs. Alexander is preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Alexander; her parents, Harvey Dean and Lenora Hazel Griffis; and 1 sister, Bennie Horan.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Owens and husband Danny of Wichita Falls; son Terry Alexander of Weinert; sister, Ruthie Langford of Rule; brother, Don Griffis of Weinert; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers for Myrle are David Owens, Will Greensight, Craig Hostas, Elmer Adams, Jerry Walker, and Jeremy Lowe.
If desired, memorials can be given in Myrle's name to the Weinert Cemetery, Weinert First Baptist Church, or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
