Nannie Elizabeth Byrd, 86, passed away Friday evening, November 2, 2012 at her home in Rochester, Texas with her family at her side. Funeral services will be Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rochester, Texas with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Burial will follow at the Rochester Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Rochester, Texas. A visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
Mrs. Byrd was born June 26, 1926 in Haskell County, Texas to Roy Lee and Okla Lorane Wilson. She married Q.D. Byrd November 9, 1945 in Haskell County and lived in Rochester, Texas for most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rochester and was a cook at the Rochester School Cafeteria and Senior Citizen Center at Knox City, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Carter and husband Jackie of Anson, Texas, Mary Alice Headstring and husband Cary of Abilene, Texas, Louise Corzine and husband Kieth of Stamford, Texas; two sons, Clifford Byrd and wife Karen of Rochester and Hank Byrd and wife Donna of Rochester; one brother, Leroy Wilson of Rule, Texas; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Q.D. Byrd, two brothers and six sisters.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice of the Big Country and her caregivers: Mickie Aguilera, Cheryl Huckabee, Janie Lopez, Delia Lampy, and Janie Guzman. "We couldn't have done it without them."
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of the Big Country, Abilene, Texas and Meals on Wheels, Haskell, Texas.
