Norma Laird peacefully passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Wren House in Cleburne, Texas. Norma was 100 years old, 4 months shy of her 101st birthday. Chapel services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell with Phil Sims officiating. Interment will take place immediately following at Willow Cemetery in Haskell.
One of 7 children, Norma was born in Johnson County, Texas to Annie (Croft) and T.A. Laird. When Norma was 9 years old, the family moved to Haskell where she lived until WWII when she moved to California. She came back to Haskell then onto Fort Worth where she resided many years before ending up in Cleburne to be close to family. Norma enjoyed working outdoors in her yard and growing flowers.
She was a big fan of the Texas Rangers, the Cowboys and Mavericks. During her stay at the Wren House, many residents would come to her room to watch to Rangers with her. She was known as the biggest fan. Norma was a member of the Church of Christ and a retired bank teller.
She is preceded in death by her parents, T.A. and Annie Laird; 3 brothers, Croft Laird, Wayne Laird, William Laird; and 2 sisters, Lois Laird Hutchenson and Corene Laird Henshaw.
She is survived by a sister, Annette DeRosa; and 11 nieces and nephews.
